Carla began her career at OTC as an adjunct instructor in 2004. In 2009, she took the position of Instructional Designer for Online Teaching and Learning, which changed to Coordinator of Online Instructional Development in 2010.

Carla coordinates online faculty development opportunities, the online review process and online faculty mentoring. Overseeing the online faculty certification program, she leads faculty members in the design, development and delivery of pedagogically and visually sound online instruction. She identifies, evaluates and responds to online faculty development and training needs to promote best practices and build online community. She also coordinates and assists in the mentoring of online faculty as well as the implementation of continuous quality improvement initiatives in online teaching and learning. Collaborating with online faculty, she develops and refines guidelines for evaluating online course development and course delivery processes with reviewers, Lead Online Instructors and respective departments. Carla is a 2010 recipient of a Blackboard Catalyst Exemplary Course Award and has completed the Institute for Emerging Leadership in Online Teaching and Learning through the Sloan Consortium.

Carla has taught at the Springfield campus, the Lebanon Education Center, and online where she has developed multiple online courses. Her previous experience includes working as a part-time writer and editor in forensics and serving as a graduate teaching assistant at Missouri State University while completing her master’s in English Education. She has also taught English, speech, and theatre at the secondary level.
